    LANAP Aftercare Guide

    Last updated 10 months ago

Laser treatments present an exciting advancement in the field of dentistry. Lasers allow cosmetic dentists to treat gum health issues without painful surgery and stitches. Treatment of gum disease with the laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP) will significantly reduce recovery time, but caring for your mouth after laser treatment is important for optimal results.

Medication and Treatment: Before your treatment, you will discuss medication options with your cosmetic dentist. Take any prescribed vitamins, supplements, and medications exactly as your dentist recommends. Additionally, you’ll be given a rinse called Peridex. Be sure to use this rinse twice daily as directed.

Food and Drink: For the first day after your LANAP treatment, you’ll only intake liquids. After that, stick to soft foods for approximately one week. Your cosmetic dentist will tell you what types of foods to avoid. Don’t chew on the treated area or you may dislodge scabs necessary for healing. Be sure to drink lots of liquids during recovery for better overall health.

Oral Care: Follow your dentist’s instructions carefully when caring for your mouth. You must brush delicately and should avoid poking at the gums with the brush’s bristles. It’s extremely important to keep your mouth clean during healing. You can rinse, wash, and spit with water as much as needed after surgery, as long as you do so gently. If there is pain or swelling, use an ice pack for no more than 20 minutes at a time.

Healing: The surgical area may be painful, swollen, and slightly bloody in the hours following the procedure. During healing, the gums may turn a variety of colors. This shouldn’t cause alarm. If the pain, swelling, or bleeding is excessive or persists, contact your dental office right away.

If you’ve undergone a laser gum procedure, follow your dentist’s instructions carefully for proper healing. StoneRidge Dental Care offers the most cutting-edge dental care options, including LANAP—we are one of the few cosmetic dentist offices in Columbus to offer laser technology. Three Questions to Ask Your Dentist during Your Next Visit

    Last updated 10 months ago

When you visit your dentist for regular checkups, you may not have any oral health concerns. But it’s always good to talk to your dentist about your teeth’s health and condition during these visits. Arming yourself with more knowledge about general and cosmetic dentistry and your unique dental care needs can help you maintain your beautiful smile now and into the future.

    1. How Healthy Are My Gums?
Gum disease affects millions of Americans. Long before diagnosis, your dentist may see signs of poor gum health during your regular dentistry appointments. Your dentist may be able to point out certain areas of your mouth that could use extra care during brushing and flossing routines. Addressing gum disease early is important, as the effects of its advanced stages are often irreversible.

    2. Am I Brushing and Flossing Correctly?
Most people brush and floss daily as recommended, but not everyone performs these tasks correctly. Getting helpful tips on the types of toothbrushes and floss that will provide optimal results for you can make a big difference. Also, your cosmetic dentist may notice areas of your mouth that indicate certain problems in your brushing and flossing habits.

    3. How Can I Get the Smile I Want?
If you’re like most people, your smile isn’t perfect. Whether your teeth aren’t the bright white they once were or molar growth has made your teeth slightly crooked, modern dentistry may have the exact solution you’re looking for. Whitening and straightening procedures can now be completed in little time and at a reasonable cost, with long-lasting results. Discuss your options with your cosmetic dentist and you may have the smile of your dreams when you walk out the door.

The next time you visit your cosmetic dentist, be sure to ask some questions to ensure you’re getting the best from your oral health routine. At StoneRidge Dental Care of Columbus, our friendly and knowledgeable staff is eager to help you find the solutions for the smile you’ve always wanted.
